2019 Artworks Christmas Party and Dirty Santa Gift Swap

Join us all at Artworks Studio & Gallery on December 7th, 6pm, for our 2019 Christmas Party. Talis Jayme of Artworks Studio & Gallery will be hosting the party this year along with all of the gallery artists and Villagio businesses. 325ZeroHunger, the nonprofit with the mission of ending childhood hunger in the 32506 and 32507 zip codes of Escambia County, is our 2019 Charity Organization of the Year, and this will be our fifth year with Noah Moseley hosting our Dirty Santa Christmas Gift Swap.

325ZeroHunger Charity Contributions

Bring food for the hungry. 325ZeroHunger is working with seven (7) elementary and middle schools in our geographic area and will make sure that our food contributions are distributed to those children and families in need in our area.  We encourage our party guests to bring a food contribution for this wonderful charity. The following food items would be greatly appreciated by families this organization serves:  Pasta, Pasta Sauce (in a can, not glass), Rice, Canned Beans, Canned Chicken, Canned Tuna, Chili, Ravioli, Peanut Butter, Cereal, Oatmeal, Grits.

This Christmas party at Artworks is one small chance for us to help address local childhood hunger, but it is a HUGE part in the lives of those children. Bring any of the items suggested above as your contribution. Donations will also be accepted.

Dirty Santa Christmas Gift Swap, 7:30pm

Bring a wrapped gift if you would like to play in our Dirty Santa Christmas Gift Swap where you can steal gifts from someone else and they can steal from you – all in good fun and everyone who plays leaves with a Christmas gift. We suggest wrapped gifts of about $20 in value. The Dirty Santa Christmas Party will start at 7:30pm.

Do you have a favorite ugly Christmas sweater? Wear it to the party for a chance to win our Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition. The winner will be announced after the Dirty Santa Gift Swap.

Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served for everyone attending and a cash bar will be provided by the Jellyfish Restaurant and Bar. Party attendees are welcome to bring food and beverages to share. More details will be posted here as possible. The public is welcome to join us so tell all of your friends. Call Noah Moseley if you have questions (334) 538-0580. Thank you. We hope to see you and your friends at the party.

Merry Christmas!
~Talis Jayme

Artist of the Month November 2019 Gove Scrivenor

Gove Scrivenor, better known for his musical prowess, is the Artworks Studio and Gallery November Artist of the Month. Gove’s art and photography of people, places and things is inspired by his musical travels. He will also perform at Artworks on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. during the Frank Brown Songwriters Festival.

Following a stint in the Navy as a sonar Tech aboard submarines, Gove headed to Nashville to pursue a music career, recording four albums and playing on numerous sessions for many of the big names. He also did voiceovers for National Geographic.

“I've always been an artist in one form or another and now enjoy creating the fine art and photography works that have until now been hiding away in the recesses of my mind,’’ he said. “My work incorporates photos of people, places, and things I've come across in my musical travels and are then digitally manipulated to create these pieces. I have no formal training and rely completely on my imagination to pull me through.’’

Noah Moseley is a self-trained artist who has lived on Perdido Key since 2003. He began his artistic career around 2008 thanks to the recession and Microsoft layoffs - he had plenty of time on his hands and art was an easy hobby. Perdido Key lent itself to Noah for landscape impressions and Noah's acrylic on canvas island pieces soon led him to Talis Jayme's Artworks Studio & Gallery where he has been a resident artist since 2009.

While impressionist island paintings continue to be a staple of his work, he does not limit himself to just islands. He has added impressionist paintings of sea life found on and around Perdido Key to his collection as well as patriotic paintings like the American flag on display at Jim's Firearms in Pensacola. You will find Noah's palm trees, beach scenes, brightly-colored crabs, parrots and more decorating residences and businesses from Orange Beach to Perdido Key, Pensacola and even as far away as Hong Kong.

WHO: ARTWORKS’ ARTIST OF THE MONTH FOR JULY CYNTHIA HOBGOOD

WHAT: JEWELRY MAKING DEMO by Cynthia Hobgood

WHEN: Demonstration Saturdays, July 13th & 20th, 1:00-4:00 p.m. Light refreshments

We all learned bead stringing in kindergarten using macaroni and yarn. At about the same time I discovered rocks. Just sitting in the dirt searching for the “pretty ones” no driveway or gravel pile was safe from pilfer-age.

Still searching for the prettiest rocks, today I travel the world via trade shows and the internet searching for quality gemstones, semi-precious gemstones, pearls, crystal, artisan glass and metals. At the very heart of beautiful jewelry are these beautiful gifts from nature.

Once selected, characteristics of the heart or focal piece guide the design. Unique designs come from new pairings and combinations in colors, proportion, texture, balance, and scale. The design’s practical considera-tions are wearability, construction and camouflage.

But my first necklace some 40 years ago wasn’t a circle at all. I had not yet learned to close the circle with a clasp. I started stringing and hand knotting pearls with no real objective except keeping my hands busy. Sixteen feet later I had a new hobby and an open- ended lariat. I still love it!

Moving from hobby to business is the result of being “discovered” by Artworks owner Talis Jayme. The quirky little gallery and its very talented artists always have something there to make you smile. Because of Talis my pretty rocks, pearls and I are happily at home.

ARTIST: Wanda Hubbard

ARTIST: Wanda Hubbard

Wanda Hubbard, was born in Birmingham Alabama and is a self-taught artist. She enjoys painting using vivid colors, studying the techniques used by other artists and experimenting with varying techniques/styles.

She began painting in the late 70's with watercolors; botanical themes being her favorite. As an inexperienced painter she was drawn towards watercolors because painting with watercolors is relaxing and forgiving. In the early 90's she began working with oils.

Wanda's work, spanning over forty years, has included various mediums (watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink and resin) but one thing has stayed the same. From the first watercolor to her work today with alcohol inks, her love of brilliant colors continues.
